“In contemporary conspiracy culture nowadays, highly complex events are often reduced to one totalizing explanation. People jump to conclusions quickly. Questioning the official narrative is not the problem; it’s replacing one rigid narrative with another and then becoming equally identified with it.
We live in a complex reality that requires us to tolerate uncertainty, to stay in the unknown, to deal with contradictions without falling on one side or another. For example, complex reality says several things may simultaneously be true, but the threatened mind wants to come to a conclusion and says, “just tell me who is behind it.
Complex reality tells you, we don’t have enough information yet; let’s wait, but then the threatened mind says, “they’re hiding the truth,” instead of realizing that we’re still trying to figure out what’s happening. This is very popular nowadays, especially in social media conspiracy armchair activism.
The need for certainty can create the illusion of understanding, and having a definite explanation may feel very satisfying, psychologically, but that is not the same as knowing what is true.
Greater psychological maturity includes the ability to remain in the unknown with uncertainty, to admit you don’t know yet without immediately filling in all the gaps with all kinds of premature conclusions just to feel psychologically safe.
Which reflects more maturity, discernment, and also wisdom than confidently insisting on an explanation when there’s actually not enough evidence, but just assumptions, for the most part.”
