“David Hawkins understands there’s a vertical dimension of human consciousness.
In his Map of Consciousness, 200 is the level of courage; it’s the critical threshold. It’s the dividing line between force and power, falsehood and truth, and destructive versus constructive expressions of consciousness.
Hawkins says that approximately 85% of humanity calibrates below 200, with 15% above 200, which you also see talked about in other esoteric and occult traditions.
The levels below 200 are associated with shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, and pride.
And according to Hawkins, consciousness below 200 tends to experience the source of its problem as primarily outside itself. It externalizes everything. People here don’t have access to intuition, symbolism, or their higher spiritual nature.
This also includes many people in the truther, freedom, or conspiracy movement, because below 200 is also where you are stuck in the blame-victim trap, constantly externalizing evil, with no ability for inner work, shadow work, or to be able to dive into deeper psycho-spiritual work.
There is a tendency towards rigid black-and-white thinking.
The problem is always “them,” and the evil is “out there.”
But at 200, where you move from pride into courage, a very important shift begins.
The individual becomes increasingly willing to take responsibility for their own life and, most importantly, to face uncomfortable truths about themselves.
It takes courage to face the lies you tell yourself, as Gurdjieff would say. To face your own shadow, darkness, and capacity for evil, rather than exclusively projecting it outwards.
If you’re not capable of facing the lies within yourself, you’re not able to differentiate the truth from lies outside in the world.
Courage is key, which is not about the courage of facing the world out there, but the courage to face yourself, to take a deep look into the mirror, and to question your own beliefs, to recognize your projections and your father and mother wounds.
We constantly project onto others, and it takes courage to be able to admit when we’re wrong, to confront aspects of ourselves that we would rather not see but only see in someone else.”
