Russia’s FSB has detained Yuki Imai, a correspondent for Japan’s Hokkaido Shimbun, accusing him of collecting restricted information about Kuril Islands residents serving in the Ukraine conflict for Japanese intelligence.

Japan has requested further information and called for fair treatment. The journalist remains in custody as the investigation continues.
