Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the convention center in the Awaza national tourist zone in Turkmenistan on October 9, where he was welcomed by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The venue is hosting the meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of Heads of State, followed by the Caspian Environmental Summit.

The CIS leaders are scheduled to meet in both restricted and expanded formats before touring an exhibition. Leaders of the five Caspian countries will then discuss environmental issues affecting the region.
