🇮🇷/🇨🇳 Qalibaf: Iran sees ties with China as more than political or economic cooperation

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Iran views its relations with China as extending beyond political and economic cooperation, describing the relationship as an interaction between two major Asian civilizations.

“In the current international environment, where the world is facing complex challenges and rapid changes, cooperation between major civilizations and the Global South has taken on particular importance,” Qalibaf wrote.

Qalibaf said the Iranian people had demonstrated the depth of their power and resilience following what he described as the “third imposed war” against Iran, adding that the country’s resistance would usher in a new phase in Iran’s relations with friendly countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran hopes to reach bilateral mechanisms with China within the framework of the 25-year cooperation agreement, Qalibaf said. Such mechanisms, he added, could deepen and accelerate bilateral engagement while also providing an opportunity to help shape a new regional order.

Iran believes its relations with China are not limited to political or economic cooperation, Qalibaf said. Rather, he described them as an example of interaction between two major Asian civilizations that could serve as a model for dialogue among civilizations, respect for differences and cooperation based on shared interests.

“In the current international system, where the world is facing complex challenges and rapid changes, cooperation between major civilizations and the Global South has taken on particular importance,” Qalibaf wrote.

He said Iran and the People’s Republic of China could use the capacities of their legislative institutions to support multilateralism, greater fairness in international relations, respect for cultural diversity and stronger cooperation among independent countries.
