🇺🇸✈️ US Airports Begin Using AI to Assist Air Traffic Controllers
Artificial intelligence has begun assisting air traffic controllers at three major Washington-area airports, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced.
The new Strategic Management of Airspace Routing Trajectories (SMART) system is now operating at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
The system uses real-time data and predictive analysis to help controllers manage congestion, weather disruptions and aircraft arrival times. Officials say AI will suggest adjustments to flight paths, while human controllers will remain responsible for managing US airspace.
The system will undergo an initial 90-day trial before a possible wider rollout.
