Police entered the LPU campus and checked the boys’ and girls’ hostels late at night amid rumours circulating on social media. Officials said they spoke to wardens and students and found no such incident inside the girls’ hostel, calling the videos being circulated fake.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said police deliberately avoided using force during the unrest and instead held talks with students and the university to address their grievances. He said the situation has been brought under control, while an FIR has been registered and a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed. CCTV footage is being analysed to identify those involved in vandalism and stone-pelting.
