In Demonologie, King James I himself said he supported the death penality for witches & magicians as their punishment:
"They ought to be put to death according to the Law of God, the civill and imperiall Law, and municipall law of all Chriftian [Christian] nations.
...But in the end to fpare [spare] the life, and not to strike when God bids strike, and fo [so] feverely [severely] punish in so odious a fault and treafon [treason] against God, it is not onely vnlawfull, but doubtleffe no leff sinne in that Magiftrate,"
