King James I believed the Scriptures bore testimony of Christ, that faith cometh by hearing the word of God, and that Scripture contains a command to do certain things and prohibition to not do certain things:
"Search the fcriptures (faith [saith] Chrift) for they will bear teftimiony of me: And * the whole Scriptures (faith PAVL) are profitable to teach^ to improoue, to correct, & to inftruct in righteoufness, that the man of God may be abfolute being made per it vnto al good works. I ioyne to this, the careful hearing of the doctrine with attendance and reuerence: For * faith commeth by hearing (faith [saith] PAVL^"
...
"The whole Scripture contayneth two things: a command, and a prohibition; to do fuch [such] things, and abftaine [abstain] from the contrarie. Obey in both;"
