👁 Tonkeeper changed wallet addresses: what does this mean?

⚫️ Yesterday in Tonkeeper, the wallet addresses were changed: the initial letters "EQ" were replaced with "UQ", and the ending letters also changed. Users were reassured: "everything crucial works as before". So why change?

⚫️ Every TON-address has different display variants, and using the TON Address service, one can easily see them all. The addresses themselves remained the same, only the display changed from "bounceable" (EQ…) to "non-bounceable" (UQ…).

⚫️ "Bounceable" is needed so that when sending funds to an uninitialized smart contract, they don't get lost but return to the sender. However, wallets can accept funds even before their activation, so their addresses were changed to "non-bounceable".

⚫️ And why are the last symbols changing? It's a checksum: they are calculated from all the previous ones to check if there are any mistakes in the address (if a user makes a typo, the checksum won't match). Therefore, when any characters in the address change, the last ones automatically change as well.
