👁 Why does TON need a new node?

⚫️ The RSquad team has released TON Rust Node, a new node implementation written in Rust. But to understand why this matters, it’s worth first recalling what a node actually is.

💡 Put simply, a node is a server that keeps the blockchain running. It stores network data, helps process new messages and transactions, and its stable operation is a major factor in the resilience of the whole system.

⚫️ Until now, TON’s main node implementation was written in C++. In the case of TON Rust Node, the point is not just the new language: alongside the new implementation, RSquad is also introducing an updated toolkit for server management, including support for Docker and Kubernetes.

⚫️ The main focus here is infrastructure automation. The idea is to make nodes easier to deploy, update, monitor, and administer — especially relevant if you are dealing with several servers rather than just one. For this, for example, RSquad added nodectl, which makes it possible to manage an entire cluster of servers at once.

⚫️ As a result, the new node should lower the barrier to entry for those who want to work with servers professionally. The more convenient infrastructure management becomes, the easier it is for large operators to enter the TON ecosystem.

⚫️ This is especially relevant for TON because the network has already faced difficulties caused by weak validator hardware. In past updates, penalties were even introduced for interruptions in block processing. If launching and maintaining nodes really becomes easier, this could either attract stronger and more responsible validators to TON, or push existing operators to take their infrastructure more seriously.
