❗️Pezeshkian warns US-Israeli war damaging Iran’s ecosystems

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on 16 October that the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic is inflicting serious damage on Iran’s ecosystems, threatening biodiversity, water resources and the well-being of future generations.

Speaking at a leaders’ summit linked to the UN biodiversity conference in Yerevan, Armenia, Pezeshkian said military aggression destroys forests, fertile land and wetlands while releasing hazardous chemicals and heavy metals into the environment. He called for urgent international measures to address the environmental consequences of military attacks.

At the same summit, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev warned that desertification and water scarcity threaten sustainable development and global stability, while Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov called for stronger international cooperation on environmental protection.

Armenia is hosting the UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s COP17 conference in Yerevan from 19 to 30 October.
