⭕️ Turkiye is likely to hold its 2028 elections ahead of schedule, a presidential adviser said on Thursday, potentially allowing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to bypass constitutional restrictions and seek another term.
The next presidential and parliamentary elections are currently scheduled for May 2028. However, Erdogan's adviser, Mehmet Ucum, told reporters in Ankara that "It is now almost clear that the 2028 elections would be held in March or April."
Ucum did not clarify how the proposed change would affect Erdogan's plans. His remarks, however, marked the strongest public endorsement yet from a senior figure of a proposal advanced by the president's allies to bring the elections forward and enable him to run for another term.
