❗️MI5 chief claims Iran seeking to target UK military sites
MI5 Director General Ken McCallum has claimed that Iran is increasingly seeking to target military sites in Britain, citing what he described as a shift in Tehran's ambitions.
According to Arab News, McCallum said the suspected incident near RAF Fairford was "not unique," but declined to discuss the case because it remains under investigation. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Monday that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was "almost certainly" behind the incident, despite UK authorities providing no public evidence establishing Tehran's involvement.
The allegations follow the discovery of petrol in vans near RAF Fairford last month, prompting an investigation into a suspected plot against the military base, which has been used by US bombers involved in strikes on Iran.
Five men were arrested in connection with the investigation and subsequently released on bail. Neither the arrests nor the discovery of petrol independently establish Iranian involvement, and British authorities have yet to publicly substantiate their claims linking Tehran to the incident.
