❗️Rubio says US can use military power to impose 'security' across region

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington has the military capabilities to provide “security” across West Asia while saying that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, as Tehran seeks to push US forces out of the region.

Speaking in Athens alongside his Greek counterpart, Rubio said Greece would cooperate with the US in the Strait of Hormuz “if necessary,” while claiming that US military power gives Washington the ability to provide security in the region.

He also said US sanctions had brought Iran's economy to the verge of a situation experienced by few countries worldwide.

"Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, simple, period, end of story," Rubio said, adding that any agreement acceptable to Washington must ensure Iran never obtains one.

He also accused Tehran of seeking to develop such a large conventional military capability that it would become “untouchable.”
