❗️A gas pipeline explosion near Damascus late on Wednesday triggered a massive fire and knocked three power stations offline, according to Syrian authorities.

The blast came two days after a separate explosion at a gas pipeline in eastern Syria that authorities said was caused by sabotage. State news agency SANA initially reported that a "detonation was heard in Eastern Ghouta, near Damascus." A government source told AFP the incident was an "explosion in a gas pipeline near the Tishrin power plant" that caused a "huge fire."

The Tishrin thermal power plant is located around 36 kilometers southeast of Damascus. The Syrian Electricity Company said the explosion forced three power stations out of service.
