❗️Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Mohammad Dahlan form unified electoral alliance

Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and the Democratic Reform Current led by exiled, UAE-based Fatah figure Mohammad Dahlan have agreed to support a unified electoral list in the upcoming Palestinian Legislative Council elections, PIJ Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed al-Hindi confirmed to the Associated Press (AP).

Hindi said the alliance would back "a unified national list" composed of independent figures rather than members of the factions themselves. While PIJ has historically boycotted Palestinian Authority (PA) elections, he said the movement would support a nationally agreed list.

According to AP, the alliance comes despite Hamas's recent pledge to relinquish governance in Gaza, with Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya previously confirming the movement intended to participate in the November elections.

Dahlan spokesperson Dimitri Dilliani did not explicitly confirm the alliance but acknowledged efforts to unite Hamas, PIJ, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, other factions, and independent professionals around a national recovery and reconstruction program.

Participation in the elections requires candidates to commit to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and its political program. Backing a joint electoral list could allow Hamas to participate within the PA's electoral framework while maintaining its political positions.

The reported alliance marks a significant shift after years of rivalry between Dahlan and Hamas, as well as between Dahlan and the PA.

Dahlan has previously called for moving from confrontation to cooperation in rebuilding Palestinian institutions, while longstanding disputes between him and the PA have included political infighting and corruption allegations.
