❗️UNICEF warns children in Lebanon face hunger and disrupted education amid Israeli attacks
Four in five households in Lebanon are struggling to afford basic necessities as the economic crisis is compounded by the ongoing Israeli attacks, UNICEF warned today.
A new UNICEF assessment found that 22 percent of surveyed households said their children had gone to bed hungry in the previous two weeks, while 31 percent said children had gone without needed healthcare because families could not afford it.
Seventeen percent said their children had stopped attending school, while 436 schools have been damaged or destroyed since 2 March.
At least 261 children have been killed and 1,056 injured in Lebanon since 2 March, according to UNICEF. The agency estimates that 770,000 children have experienced psychological distress over the past six months.
"Children and young people in Lebanon are being asked to bear a burden no child should have to carry," UNICEF Lebanon Representative Marcoluigi Corsi said.
