❗️Ireland confirms second Nations League match against Israel will go ahead
Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson confirmed Wednesday that his team will play its second UEFA Nations League match against Israel as scheduled in Serbia on Sunday, following uncertainty over whether the fixture would go ahead.
"The FAI has said we are playing both games and we will fulfil that," Hallgrímsson said at a press conference in Dublin. "That was our intention when we came into this camp." He added that the squad was trying to focus on Thursday's match against Austria before turning to the Serbia fixture.
The announcement follows a turbulent build-up to the fixtures, with Ireland's squad voting last weekend to play the first match against Israel in Hungary, which Ireland won 3-0. The second fixture is scheduled to take place behind closed doors in Bačka Topola, Serbia, on 4 October.
