❗️Israeli military chief cancels US trip as heightened alert keeps occupation forces on standby

According to i24NEWS military correspondent Yossi Yehoshua, Israeli military Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has canceled his planned visit to the United States as the Israeli military remains on heightened alert amid an alleged 'sensitive security situation.'

A senior military official told the outlet, "You can't put the military on alert and fly abroad," adding that the decision had been made before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's latest public warnings.

Zamir had been scheduled to meet with the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the commander of CENTCOM to discuss joint military coordination and regional developments.

However, i24 reported that senior commanders determined he must remain in Israel to oversee operational readiness as military units stay on high alert.

The cancellation comes after Netanyahu claimed there were indications that Israel's enemies could launch attacks ahead of the elections, prompting a late-night security briefing with opposition leader Yair Lapid.

While Lapid later said the Israeli military, Shin Bet, and police were prepared for the elections and that there was "no reason to cause public panic," the Israeli military nevertheless maintained its heightened state of readiness, leading to the cancellation of Zamir's Washington visit.
