UPDATE | According to reports circulating on social media, the UAE-owned bulk carrier "CAPE DAO" was struck while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, according to a UKMTO alert.
Maritime security reporting said the vessel had been sailing with its AIS transponder switched off for 18 days before the incident.
UKMTO said the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile and that the crew was evacuated, with two casualties reported. The vessel caught fire and was left adrift, while authorities are investigating the incident.
