❗️China opposes 'illegal' US sanctions on Iranian airlines

China said on Tuesday that it opposed “illegal” US sanctions targeting Iranian airlines, a day after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington could impose further measures.

Bessent told CNBC that “all the Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world” within days under the impact of US sanctions, as the Trump administration moves to increase pressure on Tehran.

Beijing criticized the threatened measures on Tuesday, describing them as “illegal.”

“China consistently opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council,” foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference.
