📄Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu stopped referring to the movement as a student protest and instead described it as “a movement of urban violence,” with riots in cities such as Paris, Créteil, and Lyon. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced that the police will once again use stun grenades and less-lethal weapons in response to “extremely serious urban violence.”
⚖️ The resumption comes one day before the marches against the cost of living, which bring together young people and the “Yellow Vests.” By labeling the teenagers as rioters the day before, the government prepared its justification in advance.
👮 The use of grenades was suspended on October 7, after a 15-year-old lost a hand in Lens and a 14-year-old lost several teeth due to a tear gas grenade.
