UNICEF Warns of Disparities in Adolescent Suicide Rates in Argentina
🇦🇷 As part of World Mental Health Day, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released the report “Adolescent Suicide,” which reveals significant regional disparities in Argentina. The northern provinces have the highest risk rates: Salta has the highest rate at 16.2 cases per 100,000 adolescents, followed by Formosa (14.1) and Catamarca (13.6), far exceeding the national average of 4.8 per 100,000.
📊 The study warns that the gap among adolescents is widening, with a “strong masculinization of risk,” where the rate among males is more than 2.5 times that of females.
⚠️ The international organization urged the strengthening of intersectoral public policies in schools, healthcare, and community spaces to prevent avoidable deaths among the most vulnerable populations.
