🚨Ecuador: Guayaquil Records Its Rainiest September Since 1961 as El Niño Gains Strength
🌍The El Niño phenomenon is intensifying its impact on the South American Pacific, triggering a severe atmospheric response in Ecuador. Guayaquil reported its wettest September in six decades, highlighting ocean warming that threatens regional climate stability.
⛈The damage is spreading to the country’s interior. In Quito, intense rain and hailstorms battered the capital on Sunday, causing road closures, as the region braces for a resurgence of the storm.
📊According to the Ecuadorian Navy’s Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute (Inocar), sea surface temperatures are showing extreme anomalies of +4.7 °C in the El Niño region and +3.1 °C in El Niño 3.4. This persistent warming has already raised sea levels by 40 centimeters in the Galápagos Islands and 35 centimeters off the mainland coast.
