🚨 Ecuador: Flooding in Quito Forces Evacuation of a Metro Station and Closes Key Avenues
🌍 Rainstorms accompanied by hail caused severe flooding in downtown and northern Quito on Sunday, October 4. The storm disrupted the Ecuadorian capital’s transportation infrastructure and brought strategic roads to a standstill, highlighting the impact of the intense El Niño weather season.
🚇 At the El Labrador station on the Quito Metro, water accumulation at the entrances forced the evacuation of passengers and a temporary suspension of service. Similarly, the Quito Fire Department rescued the occupants of two vehicles trapped in the La Y area.
🚗 Faced with the blockage of major thoroughfares, the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) deployed more than 100 officers to manage traffic flow and establish alternate routes while emergency response efforts continued.
