🇺🇸⚡️ — The U.S. is deploying several hundred Army soldiers to Latin America as the Trump administration expands its military campaign against drug trafficking organizations, according to NYT.
An approximately 600-soldier battalion from the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, New York, has begun deploying to a new jungle training facility in Panama.
The troops are expected to conduct exercises with local forces in Colombia and Honduras and could support U.S. Special Operations personnel advising regional militaries during raids against suspected drug traffickers.
Several hundred additional soldiers from the same division are also expected to staff a new U.S. military command for Western Hemisphere operations in Miami.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has transferred MQ-9 Reaper drones from Africa to Colombia and Ecuador, with U.S. commanders planning to expand counter-cartel operations from maritime strikes to potential attacks against land-based targets.
