🇩🇪🇫🇷⚡️ — Germany has decided to withdraw from the Franco-German Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) future tank program, French Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Fabien Mandon announced.

Launched in 2017, the project was intended to replace France's Leclerc and Germany's Leopard 2 tanks by around 2040–2045 but has faced years of delays and disputes over industrial responsibilities, financing and technology.

Mandon described Germany's withdrawal as a significant industrial setback but said the cooperation had helped establish the foundations for a future tank.

The announcement comes just four months after the collapse of the Franco-German-Spanish FCAS next-generation fighter jet project.
