🇺🇸⚡️ — More than half of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s spring examinations underwent an “expedited review,” a more lenient process that was historically rare, according to Reuters.
The reviews generally found only minor issues, making penalties unlikely, while examiners were warned against aggressive scrutiny and faced job uncertainty.
The CFPB examined around 70 companies this year, roughly half the usual number, as the Trump administration sought to reduce the agency’s workforce and narrow its oversight.
Critics and former officials warned that the lighter approach could leave serious consumer-protection violations undetected.
