Similarweb and Chartbeat reveal how AI is starving media sites of search traffic

New data from Similarweb and Chartbeat, reported by Axios, shows how AI-driven search and chat interfaces are cutting deeply into the referral traffic and engagement that once supported news websites. Google appears to be the main culprit: its AI Overviews answer more queries directly, reducing the need to visit original sources. Similarweb recorded just 47.6 million U.S. visits to about 100 major news sites in July, down from more than 70 million at the 2024 peak, while AI referrals remain too small to compensate.

Опубликован выпуск pictura-stainless 1.0.0 — утилиты для установки случайных обоев в Noctalia Shell (Quickshell). Проект создан как лёгкая и более быстрая альтернатива недавно вышедшей утилите Pictura Noctis, с добавлением поддержки других WM (автор использует sway).
Основные отличия


Скорость сборки и размер: программа не зависит от экосистемы крейтов и собирается Makefile слишком быстро.


Не все флаги совместимы.


Режим для скриптов: добавлен флаг -p, который печатает только путь к выбранному изображению, что упрощает использование утилиты c другими бэкендами обоев:

Требования и сборка
Для сборки требуется GCC 13 или Clang 16 и выше:

Но strip позволит сократить его размер ещё на 4KБ.
Исходный код написан на языке Си и распространяется под лицензией GPLv3.
Автор отмечает, что альтернативная реализация не только значительно упрощает поддержку кода, но и положительно сказывается на производительности за счет использования современных подходов к управлению памятью. При этом сравнительных замеров не производилось, а оригинальный код Pictura Noctris не был даже скачан.

Состоялся выпуск проекта FluxCast v0.2.7, предназначенного для организации стриминга рабочего стола Linux на экраны Smart TV по протоколам Wi-Fi Direct (Miracast), DLNA и Chromecast с минимальной задержкой. Исходный код проекта написан на Python и распространяется под лицензией GPLv3.
Ключевым изменением в версии 0.2.7 стало полное устранение двух уязвимостей безопасности в сетевом стеке (исправлены несанкционированное подключение к RTSP-сессии и DoS-уязвимость, приводящая к MemoryError).

Компания Google опубликовала релиз web-браузера Chrome 154. Одновременно доступен стабильный выпуск свободного проекта Chromium, выступающего основой Chrome. Браузер Chrome отличается от Chromium использованием логотипов Google, наличием системы отправки уведомлений в случае краха, модулями для воспроизведения защищённого от копирования видеоконтента (DRM), системой автоматической установки обновлений, постоянным включением Sandbox-изоляции, поставкой ключей к Google API и передачей RLZ-параметров при поиске. Для тех, кому необходимо больше времени на обновление, отдельно поддерживается ветка Extended Stable, сопровождаемая 8 недель. Следующий выпуск Chrome 155 в рамках нового двухнедельного цикла разработки запланирован на 6 октября.
