Microsoft shows how Windows 11 admins can slash update bandwidth

Microsoft has published a detailed Windows 11 Delivery Optimization guide that could significantly reduce internet traffic during update and app rollouts. The recommended baseline expands local caches, keeps peer discovery on the LAN, and uses deployment rings so a small group of devices seeds content before larger waves begin.

Salesforce opens Headless 360 MCP to let AI agents bypass its interface

Salesforce is moving its Headless 360 strategy from promise to deployment with an open-beta MCP Server that lets Agentforce, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, and Copilot discover business capabilities directly. The company is also making Data 360’s MCP Server generally available, allowing agents to transform data, build models, and activate campaigns while inheriting Salesforce permissions and governance.

PINE64 quits making Linux devices – until the AI bubble bursts

If you’ve been eyeing up one of PINE64’s Linux-friendly single-board computers, phones or tablets, now is the time to buy one. The open-hardware company has announced it will stop “producing more Linux devices” for the time being, and said it expects its existing stock of certain devices, including the PineNote and PineTab 2, to sell out in the next three months. Obviously, RAMaggeddon is to blame. The AI infrastructure boom continues apace, with demand for memory and storage chips continuing to drive up costs because of reduced supply. If the price of even modest tech – $350 Raspberry Pi, anyone? […]

Microsoft fixes Windows Defender crashes with signature update 1.457.236.0

Microsoft has fixed the Windows Defender scan-crash bug that followed the ShieldBreak security update, after quick, full, and offline scans began failing on some Windows systems. The regression left Defender showing “Threat service has stopped” errors and, as detailed in the broken Defender scans, sometimes produced 0xc0000005 access-violation crashes.

📰 New AMD Low-Power Core & Unified Intel/AMD CPU Core Type Handling In Linux 7.3

Covered first on Phoronix back in June was an AMD Linux patch for introducing a new "low power" CPU core type to complement their typical "performance" cores and their "efficiency" cores like with Zen 4C/5C. That low power core is presumed for some Zen 6 clients and that integration is now merged for Linux 7.3 as well as unifying the Intel/AMD CPU core type handling...

📰 Someone made a Raspberry Pi D&D DM cyberdeck that tracks campaigns, rolls dice, and generates NPCs

There's nothing like being put on the spot as a D&D dungeon master when your players ask to talk to someone you haven't made notes for. And you know you can't just make up a random name and backstory, because your players will somehow make that one NPC a bigger part of the story than your planned villain.

Windows 11 tests per-app privacy controls for Win32 camera and mic access

Windows 11 is testing a major privacy improvement that lets users allow or block camera, microphone, and location access for individual Win32 applications. The controls also introduce system permission prompts for desktop apps, replacing the old all-or-nothing approach that covered every traditional Windows program at once.

Открыт код компилятора для языка программирования Mojo

Alternative to WMIC: PowerShell Get-CimInstance

KB5120998 in the Windows 11 Release Preview channel removes the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) utility from Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. With this update, WMIC is gone from those builds, and you cannot add it back. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), the service that exposes hardware and operating system data, remains in Windows. Microsoft's documented replacement for typical wmic queries is the PowerShell cmdlet Get-CimInstance.
