Swift Backup v5.1.0 - Full changelog:
Android 17 Support
- Swift Backup now targets Android 17.
- Local network access: Added support for Android 17's Local network permission so LAN/self-hosted backups continue to work with local servers via SMB, SFTP, FTP, WebDAV, etc.
New: Folder Backups
- Back up important folders to device storage or supported cloud services.
- Single or Incremental Backup: Keep one up-to-date backup or save only files changed since the previous backup.
- Restore folders to their original location or choose a custom restore location.
New Backup Format
- The new backup format improves backup and restore speed, provides smoother progress updates, and better handles complex Android app data used by apps like Termux and Android Virtualization Terminal.
- Lower storage requirement: Each backup part now needs only enough free space for that part; previous versions needed at least twice as much.
- Important: Backups created with v5.1.0 cannot be restored using older Swift Backup versions. Please update Swift Backup before restoring these backups on another device.
- Existing backups created by older Swift Backup versions can still be restored in v5.1.0.
App Backups
- Notification channels: Added backup and restore support for notification channel settings.
- App permissions: Backed-up permission choices now preserve both allowed and denied permissions.
- Play Store compatibility: Apps restored by Swift Backup no longer complain that they must be installed from Google Play.
- Performance: App backups and restores are now faster and show better task progress with the new backup format.
- Backup details: Added a new view in the app detail screen under the backup’s 3-dot menu.
- APK sharing: Export and import APKs from installed apps and app backups, including split APK sets, through Android’s share menu.
- Installed apps visibility: Improved handling on Xiaomi/HyperOS, OPPO/ColorOS, and other devices that require a separate installed apps permission, with new diagnostics in Settings > Swift Labs.
- In-place downgrades: Added optional support for compatible ROMs or modules such as CorePatch. Configure this in Settings > Apps > App data.
WiFi
- Shizuku support: You can now back up and restore WiFi networks on Android 11+.
Cloud
- Filen cloud support.
- Mega now uses Swift Backup’s lighter built-in implementation instead of the large Mega SDK, reducing app size while keeping Mega backup and restore support.
- Added Cloud diagnostics to help identify cloud connection and transfer issues.
- Added local server discovery for supported self-hosted and LAN cloud services.
- Improved cloud setup with branded S3-compatible and WebDAV presets.
- Improved reliability for Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, Yandex.Disk, WebDAV (including 123pan), FTP/FTPS, OneDrive, and Mega.
- Improved transfer progress, resume, and cancellation behavior.
Schedules
- Reorder schedules or run them manually even when they are turned off.
- Improved handling when Android applies background time limits to backup and restore services. Root users can extend the time limit in Settings > Swift Labs.
Design and Usability
- Added search on the Home screen to quickly find apps, folder setups, shortcuts, and quick actions.
- App lists now scroll more smoothly and support customizable swipe actions. Configure them in Settings > Apps > Swipe actions.
- Refreshed onboarding, settings, dashboard, premium, and cloud setup.
Other Improvements
- Added Ukrainian language support.
- Storage troubleshooting: Added guidance for storage utilities, Magisk/LSPosed modules, bind mounts, and similar configurations that can make backup storage unavailable.
