German Soldiers
Walter Karl Hugo Stettner Ritter von Grabenhofen
* March 19, 1895 in Munich
† killed in action October 18, 1944 near Belgrade
was a German officer in the Imperial Army in World War I, the Freikorps (Freikorps "Epp"), the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht, ultimately Lieutenant General of the Army and Knight's Cross recipient in World War II. He never achieved the popularity of Karl Hubert Lanz, but was considered a clever, determined and strong personality. He was very tactically gifted, a trained leader, brave and confident. His strengths were great clarity, energy and resilience in times of crisis. He was murdered in 1944 by Tito's Yugoslav partisans.
