Tesla adds home backup power to Model 3 and Model Y
On October 6, 2026, Tesla rolled out an update that lets you use your electric car as a home backup battery. This new feature allows your vehicle to keep your home powered for over two days during a blackout.
Until now, only the Cybertruck could do this. To use it, you also need a Powerwall 3 home battery installed at your house. Tesla guarantees the feature works on cars ordered since October 1 because they have the required hardware built right inside.
Other brands like Ford and GM offer home power too, but they usually make you buy an expensive separate charging box. Tesla builds the tech straight into the car, keeping your garage setup simple and affordable. 🚀🔥🏠
