U.S. Navy tests a new Blackbeard hypersonic missile on a fighter jet

On September 25, 2026, the U.S. Navy completed a flight test of Castelion’s Blackbeard hypersonic strike missile aboard an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, reaching speeds of 3,800 mph at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. ✈️

Back in February 2026, the military awarded a contract for flight trials to build a fast, long-range weapon you might see protecting carrier-based fighters in heavily defended areas.

The weapon is built to travel faster than Mach 5 with a lower cost, so the fleet can stock up on them in large quantities.
