AI accelerates reactor material development at Rosatom

Rosatom is using artificial intelligence to develop new materials for BREST and VVER-SKD nuclear reactors, reducing research timelines that previously took years.

These algorithms predict the best metal alloy compositions to withstand the extreme heat and intense radiation found inside a reactor core. By modeling how materials behave before they are physically made, the software eliminates the need for months of trial-and-error laboratory testing.

In 2026, Rosatom will open a new automated synthesis complex. This facility will physically produce the alloy samples calculated by the AI, closing the digital loop from design to reality.

This new automated process significantly shortens validation periods compared to traditional empirical testing methods.
