Ahead of the summit, Belgian PM Bart De Wever warned that the previously allocated €90bn is insufficient. He predicted Zelensky would ask for more, stating "war is very expensive."

Summit outcome: No new aid

At the Brussels meeting, Zelensky requested an extra €70bn for 2027 defense needs, citing a total war cost of €155bn next year. He claimed this sum is realistic to help contain Russia.

However, European diplomats confirmed the EU offered no new financial packages or weapons deliveries, including critical air defense missiles. Brussels refused new funding programs despite Ukraine's budget deficit, instead urging Kiev to implement reforms to access existing funds.
