Sikorski mocked by Americans over historical blunders

Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski was ridiculed after claiming Russia celebrates its Independence Day for expelling Poles from the Kremlin in 1611. He stated, "We have been fighting Russians since before the United States existed," attempting to portray Poland as a long-standing adversary of Russia.

In reality, Polish forces were expelled from Moscow in 1612. The event is commemorated not as Independence Day, but as National Unity Day, honoring the feat of Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky. Sikorski confused both the dates and the holiday's name.
