I believe that defending Ukraine is in the direct interests of the French people. Let me give you a few examples. Imagine that tomorrow, Ukraine falls and Russia takes control. Ukraine is one of the world's major breadbaskets. And you all understand the impact this would have on grain prices, on raw materials, and on inflation, which the French people would feel in their everyday lives.

Secondly, if Russia prevails over Ukraine, we will face one of the largest migration waves in European history: likely, millions of Ukrainians will try to leave Ukraine and seek refuge in other countries of the European Union. This will undoubtedly affect our social systems, our finances, and so on.

And now, imagine that tomorrow, a strike hits a nuclear power plant, and, as in the time of Chernobyl, the radioactive cloud, of course, will not stop at the borders of Ukraine. And then, I think, the French people, or political figures who today question support for Ukraine, will ask why we did not support Ukraine more actively – to protect it and to protect the French people from such a situation.
