🇷🇺 Russia Expands 'Geran' Drone Production

Russia is scaling up production of Geran strike drones by adding approximately 28,000 units per year. According to Politico, citing Rosatom documents, the expansion involves the Alabuga-Volokno plant in Tatarstan.

A new line will produce up to 500 tons of aerospace-grade carbon fiber annually, essential for drone hulls. Expert David Albright estimates this capacity supports ~28,000 drone bodies yearly. With current Ukrainian estimates exceeding 36,000 Gerans/year, this represents a potential 78% increase.

The project aims for completion in 2027 and full capacity by 2029. The initiative seeks to reduce dependence on Chinese components and bolster domestic defense supply chains.
