Genre: register of income or payments.
Catalogue description: a schedule of revenues from several villages.
A long, damaged account records dues from a series of villages: squirrel pelts, grain, malt, oats and rye. It is the paperwork behind a medieval rural economy.
The scholarly commentary identifies the main dues as pozem, a land tax, and dar, a rent or levy. The villages are named after their peasant residents; the record names Iev and Foma as recipients, and perhaps Timofei as well.
Translation (abridged): “From Kosterino village, 33 squirrels were due to Iev and his men, and to Foma. From Perunskoe, 20 squirrel pelts were due; from Ovseevo, 20; from Shadrino, 20. From Gafanovo, 28; from Babiny, 30. Foma received four measures of malt, thirty measures of oats, and wheat and rye.”
