📚 Cross margin vs isolated margin: what’s the difference?

Margin trading lets you amplify gains with leverage – but also magnifies risks. That’s why knowing the difference between cross and isolated margin is crucial:

⚡️ Cross Margin
Collateral is shared across positions. Profits from one trade can support losses in another, reducing forced liquidations. The flip side: if the market turns against you, your whole account is at risk.

🔒 Isolated Margin
Collateral is locked per trade. Losses are capped to that bucket, keeping the rest of your account safe. The downside is more frequent liquidations if a position isn’t topped up.

🔵 Cross suits hedged or multi-leg strategies.
🔵 Isolated fits focused trades and beginners who want risk capped.

Both are tools. Choosing the right one depends on your strategy and risk tolerance.

Read the full breakdown in our Blog – we unpack when to use each and how to manage risks the smart way.

📈 August Trends: What’s really happening in the market

As usual, we start the month by looking at trading volumes on our platform. They gave a solid signal back in July and August.

⏺ In June we noted that most liquidity was flowing into ETH. The token gained nearly 50% in July, and another 18% in August. For BTC, July was mostly about profit-taking, and August closed with a 6.5% drop – even though both assets hit new all-time highs during the month.

⏺ Now, about August. In both BTC and ETH, selling pressure dominated as investors locked in profits. But not all capital went to stablecoins. Roughly 30% of the released liquidity rotated into SOL. The result? Solana closed August up 28%, moving against BTC’s trend just like ETH.

📊 What we are seeing is clear capital rotation within the market. Some of the money is leaving cycle leaders (BTC/ETH) and flowing into contenders for the next impulse. If this trend holds, SOL has every chance to keep outperforming.

Are we looking at a Solana rally next? 👀

⚡️ ARB vs OP: The Battle of Ethereum’s L2 Titans

Two leaders in Ethereum scaling – two different paths to adoption.

📊 Market Overview

$ARB – Market Cap: $2.74B (#39), FDV: $5.2B
$OP – Market Cap: $1.23B (#68), FDV: $3.03B

📶 Arbitrum (ARB): Liquidity & Adoption First

Arbitrum is the largest Optimistic Rollup by almost every metric. It processes nearly 3x more daily operations and settles over $19B in transactions. With $3.2B locked in DeFi and $3.6B in stablecoins, Arbitrum has become the liquidity hub of Ethereum L2s.

The project also leads in developers (325 monthly), holders (1.63M), and community size (1.1M on X). Its diversified investor base may not include Ethereum’s deepest allies, but strong user adoption keeps it in the spotlight.

Ideal for:

⏺ Traders and protocols seeking deep liquidity
⏺ Communities looking for active user bases
⏺ Projects aiming to tap into DeFi at scale

🔴 Optimism (OP): Strategic Bet on Ethereum’s Future

Optimism focuses on long-term alignment with Ethereum’s roadmap through the Superchain vision. While its current activity and liquidity are lower ($479M TVL, $658M in stablecoins), OP is backed by heavyweights a16z, Paradigm, and IDEO with $268M raised.

Though smaller in operations (13.88 daily UOPS, $3.68B settled), Optimism’s strength lies in its tight integration with Ethereum Foundation plans. It has fewer investors, but they are strategically powerful, making OP a long-term play.

Ideal for:

⏺ Projects aligning with Ethereum’s Superchain vision
⏺ Builders prioritizing ecosystem synergy over quick liquidity
⏺ Long-term investors betting on institutional backing

🔍 Breakdown

Arbitrum dominates today with higher adoption, liquidity, and community. Optimism lags in metrics but plays the strategic game, embedding itself deeper into Ethereum’s future architecture.

📈 Community Engagement

⏺ Holders: 1.63M (ARB) vs 1.34M (OP)
⏺ X Followers: 1.1M (ARB) vs 0.748M (OP)

Arbitrum leads in sheer numbers, while Optimism builds slower but with stronger institutional ties.

💡 Key Insights

$ARB is the market leader right now – a mature, liquid, community-driven DeFi hub.
$OP is the long-term strategic bet, aligned with Ethereum’s evolution.

Which one do you think will dominate the L2 race? 🧐 Check the full breakdown of Arbitrum and Optimism on our website.

🔎 What is a 51% attack?
It’s when someone controls more than half of the network’s hashrate. This allows them to reorder transactions, perform double spends, and trigger chain reorganizations. What it does 𝗻𝗼𝘁 allow: creating new coins, canceling confirmed transactions, or directly stealing funds.
⠀
⏺ Why does it matter?
It used to be assumed that the high cost of such attacks made them unprofitable. Qubic just proved that when computing power can be shifted between AI workloads and mining, that barrier disappears. Economics no longer guarantee security.
⠀
For Monero, this is a heavy blow. Already under regulatory pressure and delisted from most major exchanges, it now faces a new narrative – vulnerability at the protocol level. Even without double spends, trust has been shaken and delisting risks may grow.
⠀
On a broader scale, this questions the resilience of all PoW chains, even Bitcoin. If Monero can be attacked, other networks with less decentralized hashrates could be next.
⠀
What’s next for Monero? 🪙
The network could introduce upgrades, improve hashrate decentralization, add defenses against concentration, or even explore hybrid consensus. Or it could do nothing – risking a slow decline.
⠀
History shows 51% attacks aren’t always fatal. Ethereum Classic survived several. But for Monero, given its controversial regulatory status, the fallout could be harsher.
⠀
📌 Bottom line
The attack on Monero isn’t just local news – it’s a warning for the entire industry. The economic barrier once thought to protect PoW chains no longer works. The real question now: how do we secure decentralized networks in a world where computing power sits in the hands of a few?

🪙 51% attack on Monero – a wake-up call for the entire industry

On August 12, something happened that made many rethink the security of PoW blockchains. Qubic, a company founded by an IOTA co-creator, managed to gain control of over 51% of Monero’s hashrate, effectively dictating mining rules for several hours.

For years, majority attacks were seen as a threat only to smaller chains. But this time, a network with a market cap of over $5B was hit.

📆 Back in June, Qubic announced it would redirect idle computing power to mine Monero. By August 12, in just four hours, they mined 63 out of 122 blocks – enough to dominate the network. No double spends were recorded, but the blockchain reorg showed that the risk is no longer theoretical.

The community was divided. Some experts called it a successful attack undermining trust, others pointed out there was no evidence of malicious intent. Still, controlling over half of the hashrate is a systemic risk in itself. Shortly after, Qubic’s infrastructure was hit with DDoS attacks, reducing its dominance and easing tension.
