📈 Altseason in 2025?

Altseason is that unique phase when altcoins massively outperform Bitcoin, turning the market into a gold rush. It happens rarely, usually once every four years, and lasts 1-2 months. This is when coins like SOL, DOGE, SHIB, ADA made x10-x100 in past cycles.

Historically, it follows a pattern: BTC rallies first, then profits rotate into ETH, then large-cap alts, and finally smaller tokens. A clear signal is Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D) dropping after BTC peaks – exactly what we saw in 2017, when BTC.D fell from 71% to 36% in just over a month, igniting one of the strongest altseasons ever.

📈 Today, we’re seeing similar signs. Since mid-summer, BTC dominance has slipped from 66% to 60%, while liquidity flows into ETH and top alts. ETH/BTC is also strengthening – historically one of the best indicators that altseason is starting.

But this cycle isn’t identical. The market has matured: ETFs, institutional capital, new sectors like RWA, AI, DePIN, ZK. Growth might not hit every token at once, but rotate between sectors. At the same time, regulation is catching up. That’s why many analysts believe 2025 could be the last wild altseason before the rules change the game.

The big question: will it be a fast, explosive finale like in 2017, or a softer, more selective cycle shaped by institutions?

🐶 Dogecoin in the Top Trends

In June and July we repeatedly pointed out the growing interest in ETH. In our blog, we took a closer look at this asset and noted its rising momentum. Events proved this right – since late June, ETH has gained over 120%. Back in April, when it dropped to $1,400, many doubted its potential. Today it trades around $4,700. The all-time high of $4,868 is now within reach, and there is little doubt ETH can break it.

But as we’ve said before, during altseason assets take turns in the spotlight. Today it’s one coin, tomorrow it’s another. We are now seeing interest shift to several other tokens, including Dogecoin.

While DOGE is often seen as a joke, technically it is a fully decentralized network. It has its own blockchain and uses the PoW mechanism. Created as a Litecoin fork, it inherited Bitcoin’s codebase. DOGE processes transactions faster than BTC, and its low fees make it ideal for micropayments and real transfers.

Today the Dogecoin network has over 8 million unique addresses, showing large-scale adoption.

In 2021, DOGE skyrocketed more than 100x, hitting a peak of about $0.74. This rally was fueled by massive social media hype backed by Elon Musk and several major traders. DOGE became the symbol of the meme coin boom, proving that even a joke can become a multi-million-dollar asset. The $1 target wasn’t reached back then, but it remains in the minds of many. Today DOGE trades around $0.23, meaning it’s almost a 5x from that mark.

📈 Mid-August Trend Analysis

In the first half of August, coins in Google Trends were only from CMC’s top 100. This shows the audience’s attention is locked on large and trusted assets. Leaders are still the same – BTC and ETH – but the details carry important signals.

Bitcoin hit a new ATH, but its dominance is going down. Since the start of August, ETH is already up 42%, outpacing BTC’s 11%. This is a classic pattern where liquidity starts flowing into the second largest crypto, and later may move to altcoins. In the past, this often came before altseason.

In July, the trending list was mostly top 20 coins like BTC, DOGE, AVAX and XRP. Now the picture is wider. Alongside BTC and ETH, Solana, Dogecoin and XRP are in the top searches, plus a few niche altcoins.

It’s worth noting that three Google Trends spots are taken by AMM projects (RAY, AERO, CRV), which shows DeFi yield is coming back into focus. If we add IoT and meme coins here, we get the usual mix for the start of altseason – infrastructure plus hype sectors.

Historically, altcoin growth phases started with ETH/BTC, and the current price action supports this. The sequence looks logical: BTC growth → ETH rally → BTC dominance drop → top alts in Google Trends → DeFi, memes and IoT in the spotlight → altcoin impulse.

📊 July trends on SimpleSwap – what’s really happening in the market

Once again, we’ve crunched real trading volumes from our platform to see how they confirm – or challenge – our earlier market calls.

But before diving into July’s numbers, let’s rewind a bit.

Back in June, we highlighted ETH as the main liquidity magnet. That call aged well: in July, Ethereum pumped 48% month-on-month, and from its low to high – an impressive 66%. Most ETH buys came through the Arbitrum network, though it didn’t translate into visible growth for L2s themselves.

We also spotted rising interest in Litecoin. While volumes weren’t on par with ETH or BTC, the trend was worth watching. In July, LTC climbed 23%, with a near 50% move from low to high.

This keeps reinforcing our hypothesis: trading volumes on SimpleSwap can act as an early indicator of price moves.

Now, about July itself: the momentum shifted towards selling. Bitcoin, still the market’s heavyweight, was sold almost twice as much as it was bought. Price action, ETF flows, and our internal numbers tell the same story. Most of those BTC outflows went into stablecoins, with a portion reallocated to ETH.

Investors seem to be locking in profits after BTC’s rally. ETH, however, shows a different picture – despite the price growth, buying interest remains strong.
