Nihilism can, in some cases, become a way of escaping the hardships and responsibilities of life, especially in the way it is often presented on social media. However, this shouldn’t be confused with nihilism itself. Saying nothing has meaning, therefore there’s no point in trying isn’t a necessary conclusion of nihilism; it’s a separate interpretation. The absence of inherent meaning doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is worthless, something can lack an absolute meaning and still hold value for a person. A lot of what is presented as nihilism online is often a simplified interpretation, or even a kind of intellectual pose. Nihilism also doesn’t necessarily have to remain purely theoretical; any serious worldview can influence a person’s choices and actions. That influence might lead to passivity, but it can also lead to acting without relying on an absolute meaning. Ultimately, the important thing is not to equate the absence of inherent meaning with the idea that life is worthless or that nothing is worth doing.
