One more trip around the sun gets notched into the grain of the wood. Another year earned, not given, like surviving a long dry spell while the heat hums low through the window screens and the weeds push their way up through the cracks in the back porch. This is the parable of turning one year older: press the button down, box warms up under palms like an old brick left out in the noon sun, and suddenly, the whole room fills with a blue so deep. No gilded stages remained, just a miracle of staying alive to watch the world bloom open in mossy greens and faded slate blues.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ/

ㅤㅤ The sky overhead turning red and casts
ㅤㅤ a long angel—shadows across the yard
ㅤㅤ but inside, the game keeps running.
ㅤㅤ Another milestone carved into the back
ㅤㅤ of the plastic casing, another year
ㅤㅤ survived against the hungry teeth of
ㅤㅤ time. As easy as sitting together down
ㅤㅤ the humid and twilight haze, passing the
ㅤㅤ worn control back and forth like a piece
ㅤㅤ of warm bread, refusing to let the day go
ㅤㅤ until every last shadow has stretched
ㅤㅤ across the lawn. Here’s to another level
