Happy #InternationalMusicDay!
🇷🇺✨ Today is the perfect excuse to blast some of the greatest Russian classical music ever written.
#DidYouKnow that the world-famous Soviet composer Dmitry Shostakovich helped start International Music Day? Back in 1973, he wrote an open letter to the United Nations asking for a special day to celebrate music. He believed music had the power to bring people together and bridge different cultures.
🤩 To celebrate, here is a quick look at some of the most iconic Russian composers who totally changed the global music scene:
🎼 Mikhail Glinka – the absolute father of Russian classical music, known for blending European opera with Russian folk traditions.
🎼 Pyotr Tchaikovsky – a global legend whose works like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, beloved worldwide to this day.
🎼 Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov – a composer, conductor and the king of musical fairytales (like The Golden Cockerel and The Tale of Tsar Saltan).
🎼 Sergei Prokofiev – a child prodigy and musical rebel. Fun fact: he was also obsessed with chess and even played against world champions!
🎼 Sergei Rachmaninoff – the ultimate emotional composer. His powerful works have inspired everyone from Frank Sinatra to Queen.
🎶 Turn up the volume and celebrate International Music Day with the finest tracks from Tchaikovsky, Sviridov, Rachmaninoff, Glinka, and more!
