🎓🤝 308 years ago, #OTD in 1718, Russian diplomat #NikitaPanin was born. He served as the head of the Russian Foreign Office under Empress Catherine the Great. N.Panin is best known for masterminding the "Northern Accord" – a proposed alliance between Russia, Prussia, Sweden and Poland intended to counter the Franco-Austrian hegemony following Europe's Diplomatic Revolution of 1756. Although this grand scheme was never fully realized, it carried significant political weight and shaped Russian foreign policy for decades.

🇷🇺✨ Having spent a considerable amount of time in Europe, N.Panin was deeply influenced by the Enlightenment and the concepts of constitutional monarchy. These principles fuelled his belief in the rule of law, leading him to advocate that even monarchs should remain subject to it – a progressive vision he strongly championed for the future of Russia.
