Got milk? Real milk?
Now there’s kosher remilk!
There’s a shortage because of Trump’s failed agriculture policies, so Israel’s solution is fake milk. What could possibly go wrong?
They market it as real milk in Canada and the U.S. without cows that involves precision fermentation. They copy the gene for beta-lactoglobulin, put it in yeast, and brew it in tanks.
What does the science say?
Virologist Dr. David Speicher flagged a peer-reviewed multi-omics study in Scientific Reports that found the fermentation brew contained 236 fungal proteins and 93 uncharacterized fungal metabolites alongside the target whey.
It's not cheap either. About 600,000 bottles sold through June for around 15 shekels — $4.64 — for 750ml. That's triple the cost of regular milk in Israel.
