📆 #OTD, on October 9, 1874, Nicholas Roerich, outstanding Russian artist, writer, traveller and philosopher, was born in Saint Petersburg.

🎨 India had a profound influence on Roerich's artistic endeavours and became the endless source of his inspiration. The Himalayan landscapes, majestic temples and monasteries, the spiritual life of the people — all of these were reflected in his works.

🇷🇺🇮🇳Roerich’s legacy is regarded as one of the most remarkable symbols of Russian-Indian cultural ties.

🏛️ In 1993 the International Roerich Memorial Trust was established in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, to preserve and promote the spiritual and material heritage of the Roerich family in India. Over the years, Russian Ambassadors to India Alexander Kadakin and Vyacheslav Trubnikov were members of the Trust, while the current Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, holds position of the member today.
