🇺🇸🇦🇫⚡️- 25 years ago tonight, President George W. Bush announced the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom, the US invasion of Afghanistan.

The invasion was initially a resounding success overthrowing the Taliban regime in just 2 months and establishing a new Government. The US was able to hunt down and capture/kill 10's of thousands of terrorists avenging the September 11th attacks.

However as the years went on, the goals of the mission became increasingly convoluted and wasteful, changing from counter-terrorism to women's liberation and nation building.

The US did not withdraw from the country until 2021, the fallout of which resulted in the Taliban returning to power immediately.
